The human body carries out many complex operations all the time. It converts the food we eat into energy. It co-ordinates different kinds of movement, enabling us for example to play football or to swim. And it fights diseases.
There are many different working parts in the body and, as in a machine, each has its own function. To understand how the body works you need to know what each part does, and how it fits in to the whole system. Each main part is labelled on page 4 and 5 with a colour code. This matches the coloured heading on the pages which which deal with that part and its place in the system.
